Narrative, Themes and Audio Visual

Narrative

Narrative is typical happenings that go to make up the story for instants: House of wax; a group of teenagers get stranded in a isolated town because there car breaks down and then they get killed one by one by strange creature/thing/person.

Always on the run; each person comes into contact with the killer and then dies-except for the survivor and the hero; the killer finds out where the victims are.

Themes

Themes are ideas on what the stories are based round such as the survival of people from a mass murderer/ supernatural force (Exorcist); mental illness.
The fight between ‘good’ and ‘evil’; supernatural forces; Death, Torture.

Audio Visual

In all horror films there is fast editing and unusual camera angles.
Low angle shots, slow motion, special effects sudden cuts to close ups to make you jump such as woman in black which sought of makes you jump a lot n stereotypically all other supernatural or creepy films.
‘Spooky’ music, often very slow to build up the audiences tension and then to make them jump.
