Analysing Student work

Analysing student work

Before forming ideas and filming our Thriller opening we have looked at previous students work. Below I have analysed and marked a few of these openings based on these five questions:
  1. Does it look like a Thriller opening?
  2. Can you see Thriller conventions?
  3. Have they made good use of mise-en-scene?
  4. Is it technically secure?
  5. Is the sound used appropriate?
Based on these questions I will then give my own personal level based on this scale:
  1. Minimal
  2. Basic
  3. Good
  4. Excellent
                                                             Night walker

1. this opening sought of reminds me of a horror or thriller setting
2. they've used thriller conventions using the dark setting
3. the mise en scene is good because of the typical dark setting
4. the camerawork is good, there's no signs of shaking and they have used loads of camera angles and shots.
5. the soundtrack helps to use a creepy, dark atmosphere.

Overall: 4 (excellent)

                                                             Hide And Seek

1. this opening looks as if it's a horror film
2. the setting they use looks as if it's a horror because of the abandoned warehouse
3. the mise en scene is brilliant because the costume they used makes it look as if it's an actual killer.
4 the camera work is good but it sometimes stop panning when it tries tracking the girl it speeds of fast and has to stop so the girl can catch up but however it was really good the use of camera angles & shots.
5 the soundtrack they used made it creepy and made daylight look scary.

Overall: 4
