Colour

Colour has been used regularly now in films a lot and the first use of colours was in films such as Voyage a Traver L'Impossible by the pioneer George Melies in 1904 this was a coloured film.

Here the film was hand painted frame by frame. this was the first use of colour in films.

From the 1930s to the 40s black and white represented reality and colour represented fantasy and spectacle.

wizard of oz used a lot of colours to show fantasy and black and white filter to show reality to show that she's in reality, they used colours to show she was in a magical world.

Colour: Denotation and Connotation

Denotation - the literal description of an idea, concept or object.

Connotation - what we associate with a particular idea, concept or object.
For example the connotation of red would be anger, danger, romance, blood etc

So the Connotation of blue would be sadness, boy, calm, truth etc

In this extract bright red colours are used in this extract, at first it gives the audience an interpretation of blood and danger, however we find out it's a tomato fight, but however the colour represents that they're might be something dangerous about to happen in the rest of the film maybe someone might pass away.
